BRENDAN CONNELL: Editor, Cinematographer & Post-production
Accumulated over ten years of artistic study, this portfolio demonstrates a range of skills that entail sketching, four different techniques of painting, inking, Photoshop and digital tools, ebony, charcoal, color pencil, and marker work.
Done as a project where the desire was to see the embodiment of a single word symbolized within a photo I decided on my namesake. Hope you enjoy.
What you are seeing is a very personal property of mine; a story I have been developing since 2007, and let me simply say, I am a hopeless romantic always on the lookout for that special girl These two have their own story, screenplay, concept art, and then some.
Someday I will master digital artistry! Hope you enjoy.
No matter how pristine I make it, I will always love just being able to draw with a pencil to be able to bring to life something as pure as these two. Hope you enjoy.
This was the last painting I did in my high school years and the last piece I did before graduating. I made a promise to myself that after all that Aslan and Narnia alike had give to me through the years that I would return the favor someday. I pray that it is good in His eyes. Hope you enjoy.
It's the strangest thing where my family's name means "wolf" but our symbol's the stag. All the better for us. I only wish that nose were better, but what more could I hope for but to be Irish and from the clan of the wolves? Hope you enjoy.
Can you tell? "Secret of Kells" inspired this one where I wanted to elaborate upon the Irish Odyssey, Le Navigatio Sancti Brendani. Medieval texts and illuminations within churches drew me to a style where the entire story is depicted in a single panel. If you actually want to take the time to research the myth then you will find everything rendered here. Now, I have included all of the other Irish odyssey tales, and that is only to enhance an already fantastical story.
It's pretty evident isn't it? This surprised me because it started off my painting career long before I was any good. It still pleases me. Hope you enjoy.
This was Part II of a surrealist piece my art teacher instructed us to do in my senior year of high school. This is Molly, an Eotyrannus, or Irish T-rex. I was really inspired by the Animalia book where we saw the most unbelievable animal imagery. I was really taken with this and somehow it has something of a cult following at my old high school. Hope you enjoy.
And here is Molly's guy, Clancy. He was the original idea behind my surrealist painting project and I couldn't be happier. Originally this was going to be the beginning of a series involving even more prehistoric couples set within Ireland, but the futures of those ones are pretty nebulous. Who knows? Maybe all of you will be the first ones to see them? Hope you enjoy.
Done as a film project for my school Tribeca Flashpoint in Chicago, the assignment was to take a single image and to use only audio to convey a feeling, atmosphere, or emotion. Well, take the largest Tyrannosaurus rex ever found and set her in a world where you can just hear the jungle all around you and you've got a prehistoric experience. Hope you enjoy.
I always wanted to see Disney do something with the tale that wasn't cutesy and Gistave Dore's paintings have always inspired me. My only regret about this was the strand of hair across "Red's" face which looks too much like a mustache for its own good. Still, what do you all think? Hope you enjoy.
I owe this guy more praise than I can ever give and more thanks than I can ever return. What can I say? He taught me all that I know outside of Walt Disney, Shakespeare, and Peter Jackson. Here's hopin' that only more great movies will follow soon.
Can you tell that I'm inspired by medieval artwork? The "gods" were characters I always grappled with when I was younger, but now they couldn't be bigger favorites of mine. I wanted to stay as true as I could to K.A's work, but one can only go so far. Crayak is such a potent image and symbol, but he's Sauron for crying out loud. If I can make this a cinematic reality then I can't tread where Peter Jackson did. I loved the idea of him being a gaping maw, a draconic monster. His frill was inspire
If any of you have seen any Joker/Harley Quinn artwork then this will probably strike you as familiar. I wanted to play with the idea that in all of The Ellimist's long and lonely time as The Trickster that his superior, The One, would have brought him to do the things he's done the same as he did for the Animorphs. Who knows? Maybe she even has such a relationship with Crayak; pairing him against The Ellimist in some divine plot? Hope you enjoy.
These characters may be the property of KA Applegate, but these designs are mine, so hands off. With that out of the way, I made a promise when I was eight years old that I would see these guys make it to the big screen and while I have taken a very Disney/Dreamworks/Steve Gordon route in my art style this is merely how I envision so much of my concept art. The quotes around the edges are from The Ellimist Chronicles and The Beginning where the kids look back on all that has happened and bid The
(Again, obligatory ownership warning here) Hey, if The Lord of the Rings, Star Wars, and god-willing, Narnia can get prequels then I aim to bring The Ellimist, Hork Bajir, Andalite Chronicles, and Visser together in a single installment. I wanted to find a collection of characters that could measure up to The Six equally. I settled on the Ketrans, probably the most unique and perfectly vague race K.A. ever created. I liked the idea of them being benign animals like mice, in accordance with The E
This happens when Mowgli (Nathoo at this point) is accepted into the Seeonee Wolf Pack. I wanted to include all of the animals simply because just including a few beasties isn't nearly as interesting. Hope you enjoy.
Well, it does say that Mowgli falls in love and gets married in the stories. Granted it is to a native girl, but I simply couldn't resist the idea. Hope you enjoy.
God-willing The Jungle Book will see a cinematic premiere the way it deserves. I always wanted to see Sahib-Kipling's work truly honored and I can only hope that when I get into the industry that I can make that so. This was done in my senior year as just a spur of the moment idea and then became one satisfying project. What you're seeing is a Mowgli/Shere Khan piece where they are of course squaring off in their immortal rivalry. Hope you enjoy.

Woodstock Spring theater production 2015
Another poster done for Thespian Troop 991 in something of a mix between "The Princess Bride" & "Rango".
This is the poster for the upcoming independent film that me and my team at Tribeca Flashpoint Academy have spent the better part of 2013 in producing. "All that Wanders is Not Lost" centers around a post-apocalyptic journey that a young man undertakes in finding his family. Along the way he encounters much hardship and toil. You might recognize the title from The Fellowship of the Ring as part of the same prophecy that Aragorn tells to Frodo of his own destiny.
This is a recent one. The production was based on the story of a man who becomes so close with his dog that he neglects everything else in life. Check out the script if you can find it. This one's more than funny. Hope you enjoy.
Once more, done as a project for community theater, this was another great opportunity to work with some very effective and simple imagery.
Trying to find the appropriate imagery for a project like this was a tough one. The plot only lent so much for inspiration and yet too much at the same time.
